Volunteer

I know, I know, another volunteering opportunity. But this one is a great portfolio-builder and you’d be helping out a great organization, so if you’re a social media practitioner, take a look. You can see the posting on their site at VolunteerVancouver as well.

This one came straight to my social media inbox, bloggingclasses@gmail, thanks to my poster at Thurlow and Alberni. At least the posters are good for something!

Position:
Social Media Outreach Expert
Organization:
Volunteer Vancouver

Volunteer Vancouver’s mission is to inspire and build leadership in the voluntary sector. On April 30th 2009, we launched a new e-book, tentatively titled “A People Lens: 101 Ways to Move Your Organization Forward”. The book illustrates to organizations the vast number of ways volunteers can be employed in order to further their mission; it is sprinkled with stories, best-practice tips and tricks, trends and tools. We are looking to engage a Social Media Outreach Expert to ensure that the message of the book is widely distributed, read, discussed and referred to online.

The volunteer will be responsible for the following:
– Familiarizing themselves with the goals and key messages of the e-book
– Creating a plan for outreach to bloggers; recommending strategies for wide reach and ways to create an online “buzz” – about the book and its key messages
– Ensuring that the book increases Volunteer Vancouver’s reputation as an expert on people engagement – through social media

** Execution of the outreach plan is a potential volunteer role for this person, but is not required.

The approximate time commitment is 20 – 30 hours, ideally between June and July

Benefits to Volunteer: You will have the chance to contribute to an innovative project focused on creating a future where every community mindfully engages passionate citizens. You will learn about the voluntary sector, hear inspiring stories, and meet new people.
