Yessssssssss! Thanks to the lovely and generous Ava Naves of Online Strategy I’ve got me a spanking-new used iPhone 3, and thanks to the warnings of numerous friends I know not to update the basic software, lest it become confused in typical outdated-tech-steve-wants-you-to-buy-another ways.
By the way, Richard Branson, your Virgin Mobile staff (particularly at Cherry Lane mall in Penticton, BC) simply fucking rock and I’m very, very glad to be back with them, and at $45 a month cheaper than it used to be!
So, I immediately started adding the apps I was so excited to finally get to use again after December, 2011, when I dumped the iPod Touch into Hot Tub Central after my third Martini.
The apps I added, in order, are:
- iBooks
- YouTube
- FBMessenger
- Skype
- MyFitnessPal
- LoseIt
- Flashlight
- Relax Melodies (I ADORE THIS ONE)
- Ant Smasher
- GIFBoom which is probably getting deleted pretty soon, I’m not 13
- Camera Awesome
- Camera Pro FX
- Gymboss
- iWOD Fitness
- RSS Radio
- Fitocracy
- Remix Workouts
- Poetry from the Poetry Foundation
- Paper Toss 2
- Paper Toss 1
- Foursquare
- Hootsuite
- Sonar (oh, how I’ve missed you)
- Angry Birds
- Angry Birds in Rio
Now, keeping in mind I am NOT a marketer but a writer and reporter, what other apps should I get? Oh, also keeping in mind I’m too cheap to pay for apps.

APParently there is an APP for Vancouver Public Library… excellent for researching and access to databases… and checking your account. http://www.vpl.ca

You’re so welcome! That 3GS was a faithful and reliable companion. I’m so happy that it’s in great hands.
As far as apps, some of my favourites are:
– Prey: it’s free, and it’ll protect your laptop and your iPhone in case of theft. A must. preyproject.com
– Google Maps
– Photo fx
– Harvest, to keep track of your time on projects, but requires an account with getharvest.com. I use their paid service, but they have a basic, free plan that you might actually find quite useful.
– Flashlight: as the name implies, it’s a flashlight.
– CameraBag
– Google Calendar (not my cup of tea, but some people love it)

Oh damn, yes I need Gcal. I live off of it. Got Flashlight. Will get the others as well. I’ve used Harvest before with clients; not my favorite thing, but useful nonetheless.

From Facebook comes the suggestion for the Robbie Burns poetry app and TED, Candy Crush, Twitter, Facebook, CBC, and Starbucks. I’m not a great fan of site-specific news apps, but I don’t know a better way to organize the news stream.

Thanks, great suggestions. I’m struggling to get music on the damn thing because I can’t simply drag MP3s onto it, but apparently MUST get iTunes running on this Linux setup on an old Windows box, and that’s the exact configuration that is designed not to work with iTunes. Ugh. I hate that program with a passion that will never die.

You’re welcome.
P.S. Still looking for accommodation leads here as it’s closer to Van.

Thanks, I’m set till about October now, thank GOD. But alas, work just cut my hours in less than half, so my plan for today is to buy a lottery ticket and win millions. Seems as practical as any other plan at the moment.
