From kittehs to Cthulhu, smileys are the slowly taking over the communication wavelength that used to be occupied by a tight grimace and a little wave of the hand, used to indicate everything from “Hi, I’m here and I wish to be mistaken for a virginal Japanese teenager” to “I’m sorry I ran you over with my car. It’s all good.”
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: adorning your requests for assistance in the technical help forum with a variety of crude pictographs is unlikely to succeed in getting your question answered faster or more accurately, unless you are indeed attempting to communicate with ancient Egyptians.
