i think the accreditation fees for this are really steep!
a busking licence through the city of vancouver is $36.55/4 months, and i believe VANOC is tacking on another $50 if you want to busk during the olympics. do the accredation fees cover the city of van fees + the VANOC fees too? since technically you’re busking during the olympics…
$120-170 to play for 3 hours with the “hope” of getting videoed/photoed seems unreasonable. it’s yet another company banking on the fact that too many musicians want to “get noticed” and will pay for that possible privilege.
busking isn’t guaranteed money, so this “pay to play” seems like it’d be better left in los angeles…

Thanks for the feedback. The part of this that I LIKE is the audition; I’ve been terrorized by a talentless bagpiper in the past, and one never gets over a trauma like that. Never.
But you’re right, for three hours a day it does seems steep, and what’s to prevent you from getting a regular license and operating without the stamp of approval from this organization? In my experience, Yaletown’s not that great for buskers anyway.

i 100% agree in auditioning/vetting in some way. there’s no proof there’ll be this “walking traffic” since it’s not really a neighbourhood between accommodations to venues or venues to venues…
so artists are paying a guaranteed amount for a speculation on their part.
