VanChangecamp
I initially volunteered to help with Changecamp, but warned them at the beginning I wouldn’t be able to help pull it off in May, and the way May turned out I had no chance to help out when they switched it to June, either. So the least I can do is post this, eh?
VanChangeCamp is a collaborative, participatory, web-enabled event that is meant to explore the following questions:
1. How can we help government become more open and responsive?
2. How do we as citizens organize to get better outcomes ourselves?
VanChangeCamp addresses the demand for a renewed relationship among citizens and government. – We seek to create connections, knowledge, tools and policies that drive transparency, civic engagement and democratic empowerment.
The event is a partly structured unconference. Six predefined sessions present ideas that exemplify the driving forces behind VanChangeCamp. 14 unconference slots have been left open, with the agenda to be created collaboratively at the start of the event to allow participants to share their experiences and expertise.
REGISTRATION INCLUDES:
1. All keynotes and activities
2. All breakout sessions
3. Free access to a webinar on unconferences and social media, to be held one week prior to the event. Exact date TBA.
Register here: http://vanchangecamp.eventbrite.com/
And register for their afterparty/fundraiser here: http://internetdanceparty.eventbrite.com/
If this is your first experience with a camp/unconference or you’re not an expert in social media, this event is a perfect intro. The webinar and prep session will tell you everything you need to know.
Register by May 31st to get the early bird rate of $15. Otherwise, it’s $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Blog about the conference by June 15th and send the URL to vanchangecamp [at] gmail [dot] com to be entered into a draw for a free ticket.
If the fee presents a barrier to you, don’t let it! Email our event coordinator Eli Van Der Giessen at elijahv [at] gmail [dot] com to request free entry.
Add your session ideas to the wiki (http://wiki.changecamp.ca/VanChangeCamp) or bring them on the day of the event, and claim one of the 14 unconference slots.
