africanArtThis sounds fantastic. I got this via an email for graduates from the SEARCH program from the Alliance for Arts and Culture.

CNIS’ annual African Market, Saturday June 20.

Please join us and help us spread the word!

We usually have vendors and performers. This year we will make it more interactive, so people can participate and learn something. If someone sells African beads or jewelry, I would like them to show people how they are made, etc. We will have face painting stations for kids and wall mural painting for whoever. Ideas welcome!

Participants info:

*INSURANCE AND PERMITS: CNIS will arrange insurance of the venue and have permission from the city to hold the event.

*FOOD VENDORS: Vendors that sell food must have the appropriate Vancouver Coastal Health permit for food at temporary locations.

*COST: The vendors and exhibitors pays $25 for a table. Performers gets a free table.

*LIVE PERFORMANCES: We have been allowed to use the round big lobby here for live performances, so there wont be a noise issue, neither for the performers themselves, nor for the neighbors.

*TIMING: Setup from 9 am. The market open: 12 – 4 pm. (clean up till 6 pm) The yoga studio next door has classes in the morning until 12.30, so performances starts after that.

*FASHION SHOW: We hope to have an African Fashion show, with new trends and local talent. Anyone interested?

*AFRICAN FLAGS: Since we have the big court yard with giant columns, I am also searching to borrow African flags to hang around the space. The more the merrier. Do you have one we can borrow ?

* SPREADING THE WORD: We invite local African businesses, organizations, press, consulates, restaurants, performers and NGOs etc. Please forward the information to your African contacts.

* SPACE: I am attaching a photo of the space. We are hoping for a nice day, but we have a big covered plaza, so rain is no obstacle.

To book a table, perform or for more information,
