Ah, screw this “meaning of life” business! Why is my new blog not on Google? THAT is the question.
The question we get about five times a day in the WP.com technical help forums. Let me run you through the explanation:
GOOGLE SEARCH
MY BLOG WILL NOT COME UP WHEN I TYPE IT IN GOOGLE,WHAT AM I DOING WRONG
It’s up to Google when and how to include your blog in search results but there are a couple things to check.
First, make sure you haven’t blocked search engines at Settings > Privacy.
Second, you may find the webmaster tools that search engines offer helpful.

Jul 2, 2010, 4:33 PMSearch engines also look for links into and out of blogs, the more activity the more likely it will be picked up. So link things to your friend’s blogs, have them link to yours.
I have the perfect post for you: OMG! I can’t find my blog on Google It has helpful information including 10 factors that may expedite getting search engine attention.
YOU ARE USING ALL CAPS. WHEN THE INTERNET WAS BORN AN OLD GYPSY WOMAN MADE THE EVIL EYE SYMBOL AND LAID A CURSE ON THOSE WHO TYPE IN ALL CAPS; UNTIL THEY LEARN TO USE PROPER CAPITALIZATION, THEIR BLOGS SHALL FOREVER WANDER IN THE WILDERNESS, UN-INDEXED BY SEARCH ENGINES.
Take heed.
@raincoaster, thanks! My coffee just spewed out my nose.

Jul 2, 2010, 9:01 PMYou’re only a day old and it will take a week or more to get indexed on search engines.
That’s about it.

I’m laughing out loud because I haven’t returned to that thread and hadn’t seen the additional comments. Your comment on the caps lock cracked me right up.
Thanks for the backlink. I did publish the post simply because we hear this OMG! My blog’s no on Google so frequently when we answer forum questions.

Absolutely.
I was intrigued to find that now Forum links are Follow, at least the ones on our names are. Funny I’m not seeing any real googlejuice from that; my googlejuice has really dropped off in the last two years.

Wow! Thanks Raincoaster for the webmaster tools link. I had no idea this was done. Very informative. I don’t get much traffic on my site (then again the subject matter might be boring to some and I haven’t been updating it regularly), but if I follow the suggestions in the link, I may get a few more hits. I don’t want a lot anyway, but it would be nice to reach out to a few more people.
Thanks again for the advice.

You’re welcome, and best of luck with it. It’s pretty easy once you look at the page. Don’t forget my advice on ALL CAPS!
