Yes, there have been a few cases of water toxicity, most memorably in the "Hold your wee for a Wii" contest last year, and a few runners who drink entire glasses at every water stop as well as bottles along the way. It's rare, though.

Yet another example of the wisdom of Terence: Moderation in all things.

It's often 40-45º degrees in Seville during the summer.

But apparently you can OD on water - I read about an actor in London who collapsed on stage and it was because he was drinking five litres of water a day. Surely you get enough water in London just by going outside. ;)

Anyhow, I don't find water boring in the slightest and drink 2-3 litres a day. But one thing I especially enjoy in summer is adding fresh lime juice (one lime's worth) to a 1.5 litre bottle of non-fizzy mineral water. It adds just enough 'extra interest' and is very refreshing.

Oh, and I agree about sipping water over time, as opposed to downing a whole whack of it in one go (well, unless you've just come in from the Australian outback or from being out shopping in Seville in August).

Thanks for the view from Down Under. I’m a heat lover, but I cannot begin to imagine 50 degrees. That is literally halfway to boiling water temperature! Amazing how much you need to drink under those conditions, and of course it would evaporate off you so you wouldn’t necessarily feel the sweat.
When I was in Manila I heeded the advice of the nurse in my story and filled up with a big bottle of water and a litre of iced decaf mocha, full of sugary goodness. It certainly saved my butt during a four hour ramble around the Chinese Cemetary.
